Taste the Season with Hans Rueffert, Food School October 18th


Chef Hans Rueffert is a native of North Georgia who’s family has owned and operated Woodbridge Inn for over thirty years since then Hans has lived and breathed cooking and calls himself a “real food boy”. You might even recognize Chef Rueffert from a local cooking show called “Flavors of the South” or even as the 3rd finalist on the Next Food Network Star Season 2005.

We are privileged to have Hans join Harris & Clark on Saturday, October 18th from 2-4 pm to “taste the season”. And nothing tastes of fall more than apples. Being from Northern Georgia, which is considered the apple capital of the State, Hans will talk about approximately 35 different varieties of local apples. Everything from sweet to tart and all flavors in between. Some varieties include Pink Ladies, Golden Delicious and Matsu’s. Have you ever gone apple picking and after making an apple pie, still had many apples left over? Well, Hans has some wonderful ides and recipes to share with you.

Hans is very enthusiastic about local products, which is the theme for his new upcoming cooking show, “Hans Cooks South” airing on channel 8 in January. This high definition series is themed “State on a Plate” and will feature ingredients from Georgia such as our wonderful peaches, blueberries and cheese.

Hans also has another passion. Just two weeks after taping the finale for Food Network Star, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The irony that a chef would contract stomach cancer was devastating. Hans ended up having half of his stomach and half of his esophagus removed. As of his last biopsy, he is cancer free and spends a lot of his time teaching classes at the Piedmont Cancer Wellness Center. Here, he calls on the experience of surviving cancer and his expertise as a chef to educate others on the benefits of healthy eating.

Hans Rueffert was raised in a house where food permeated his every thought. Hans now plans his day around what he going to eat and when. Hans thinks of himself as a food freak that wants to share some darn good food with you and hopefully help you create some food memories of your own.
