Who, or what, is Harris & Clark Thoughtful Grocery and Food School?

Harris & Clark is the grocery for the Serenbe community, just South of Atlanta, Ga. – For more information about the local farm see this link to Serenbe Farms.

The Food School, the latter half of our tag-line, is our food education program. Each month, we have a series of classes based not only on cooking, but also food education. The classes are led by industry experts, typically in the “modern” home on Selborne Lane, or the Nest Inn, the “micro-hotel” just next door. Sample courses have included a guided walk through Serenbe Farms, a lesson on cured meats and cheeses, a lecture and tasting of grass-fed beef, and many more.

Food School at Harris & Clark

The quarterly calendars of our food school classes are sent via email, and frequently updated on the blog. We invite you all to come down and spend a Sunday afternoon with us.

We opened our doors June 30, 2007, and continue to delight in the challenges and triumphs of a new business. Come down and see us!

All the best…
James and Anissa

This is your neighbor across the street from your wonderful soon to be opened fantasy grocery store. A huge freight truck had a delivery for you and your place was locked. I signed for two boxes of baskets and they are now safe at my house (9060 Selborne Lane). The biggest box is under cover of my porch in my courtyard and the smaller box is inside my house. I didn’t want to sign for something and leave it on the sidewalk.

Looking so forward to your shop opening!

Thanks. We are on our way.

Saw information about the sandwich contest. When I told Brant about the contest he sent me his favorite recipes. How do I submit his entry?

  5. Stephen on

You can email the recipe to ssatterfield@harrisclark.com; winners will be announced on Saturday.

Bonus points for convincing Brant you get to keep the prize if he is the victor.

Stopped in a few weeks ago and was overwhelmed by the cheese…I would like to purchase cooking classes as Christmas gifts…hopefully you will be continuing them after December. Can I purchase online or do you recommend I come into the store?

My husband and I just visited the market last week during a visit to Serenbe. On each visit we have noticed the little Nest Inn. Please contact us about scheduling a stay.

Thanks for the note. The best way to book the Nest Inn is to contact the Inn at Serenbe. They manage the Nest Inn. The link to the Inn is on the right hand side of the site. Just click the link for more information.

about 2 weeks ago I bought 2 cheeses from Sweet Grass Dairy at your store, Gouda and Aged Goat Cheese.
My wife and I enjoyed them very much, thank you for helping me in my cheese search that day.

The Gouda was really buttery with a grass like aftertaste.

Our favorite cheese was the goat cheese.
Wonderful texture, nutty taste with a great goat flavor which was strong, with no tartness and therefore surprisingly mild at the same time.
A true keeper for myself and hopefully for every goat cheese lover!!
Cannot wait to come back and get some more…..

    Anissa and James,

In my recent visit to Serenbe, I was truly impressed when I visited the store. What a vision? I’ve been reading the blog and your “Adventure” is inspiring. It is so refreshing to meet people who are truly pursuing their passion. I wish you much success and look forward to working with you as we hope to host more Serenbe weddings. Best wishes!!!

I stopped by your wonderful grocery store during a visit to Serenbe with my 2 daughters. We throughly enjoyed your southern hospitality. We were offered a honey tasting from local honey. I bought some of the Pecan Honey for my family and for a friend’s birthday. It is heavenly!!! I highly recommend all visiting the community to stop by and purchase any of the honey products, cheeses, breads, sauces, and seasonings for your family and friends. They will LOVE it! I will be back before the Holidays with my Christmas order.

    HI Anissa and Julia,

Thank you for the wonderful interview opportunity and posting on your blog. I am always delighted to be able to share my philosophy about the Art of Food.

Bella Cucina is going to be participating at the Les Dames event on November 9th. As a Les Dames member, I will be around on Saturday to help with the event. I would love to set up some time on Saturday to demo at your wonderful store. Would that be possible? Maybe in the afternoon so we can entice the residents and guests of Serenbe to create an artful meal for dinner using our products?

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Buon appetito!

We just started to sell our products on Foodoro as well and I finally had time today to check out other companies from around the country selling on the same site. Your products look wonderful and I wish I were in your area to stop by your store. Anyway just wanted to say hi and say Bravo.

My wife and I are in Atlanta from Dallas, TX and we just visited Serenbe. We were impressed and delighted with the community and your store. We tasted your wonderful honey and we bought some organic peaches and some jellies while we were there.

With the “Green” community aspect of Serenbe, I thought you might be interestd in some biodegradable writing pens (with your store name on them) that are made out of corn. See our web site above or go to http://www.promomart.com to shop. Just use key words “corn pen” and see what pops up, then contact me if you care to place an order. Let me know if you need help. Thanks again.

    Dear Anissa and James,

My friend Rose and I so much enjoyed our visit to your store today. We agreed it was the highlight of our visit to Serenbe. Anissa, I can’t thank you enough for sharing your apple butter recipe with me. Your enthusiasm and excitement for putting by fresh produce is contagious! I look forward to seeing you again and hope to learn more from you. James, thanks for introducing me to another farmer. As you could see, I love to talk about growing herbs and you’ve opened up a whole new opportunity for me there.

What a pleasant surprise it was to drive all the way down to Palmetto and run into my Atlanta neighbors there at your little store. It’s easy to see that Harris & Clark is the place to be!

    Hi James!

You’ve been on my list to contact for a while! You stopped by my booth at the East Lake Farmer’s market this summer and mentioned you might be interested in carrying my candles and soaps over the holidays. If you’re still interested, please let me know! I have been meaning to make a trip to Serenbe and check out your store, so hopefully we’ll meet in person soon!

    Warm Regards,

    The inspiration:

“Cheese is the soul of the soil. It is the purest and most romantic link between humans and the earth.” Pierre Androuet.

    The challenge:

GK Chesterton: “The poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.”

    Voila: Tasting to Eternity (google)

This book is a poetic view of 30 of the best loved French cheeses with an additional two odes to cheese. Recipes, wine pairing, three short stories and an educational section complete the book.

A unique and amusing Christmas present for all food lovers
